They Say I Say

One Pager

Many people don’t like to step outside of their comfort zone, especially when it comes to what they eat. They might not like the look or the smell of what they are about to eat so they are afraid. They don’t want to try it even though it might be one of their favorite foods if they were to just try it. Many of those same people are the same people that would be afraid to go out on some kind of adventure that might be even a little bit dangerous. They don’t want to live outside of their comfort zone because it is not what they are used to. Several people claim they don’t like any ethnic foods but don’t realize most of the things they eat are not originally American. Even hotdogs are not from the United States but have turned into a standard American food.

"Food is a universal concept," said John Ikpeme. "It brings people together." Even if you don’t like some of the ingredients in certain foods, there is always a way to change it. It is possible to make substitutes or even add to it. In some Nigerian food the ingredients include some spices, bell peppers and onions but they never include meat. Most Americans like meat and feel the need to add it. This is an American variation of a traditional Nigerian dish.

I feel like people should step out of their comfort zone more often and try more foods that are new to them. It’s kind of like going on new adventures. You never really know if you are going to like it until you do it. I hate when people say they don’t like any kind of ethnic food even though they don’t realize that most of the foods they eat probably aren’t from America. They are more than likely ethnic  foods even though that is not what they would probably consider to be ethnic. Personally, I used to not step out of my comfort zone much with food but I have learned to try new things. Like a few months ago even I told everyone that I hated sushi even though I had never tried it. I am just not a big fish fan so I assumed I hated sushi. There was one time though that one of my friends forced me to try it so I did and now it is one of my favorite foods! But if I never would have tried it then I never would have known and I would have just assumed I hated it still. I wish more people would give it a try so that is what we are going to try to do. We probably won’t like all of the food we cook and that is just fine but at least we are going to give it a try. Some of the food might also be difficult to cook since we more than likely have never made anything like it before so it is fine if we mess it up, it just might not taste as good as traditionally made food but we are only trying so it is okay to fail.
